Red Butte Garden and Arboretum is a botanical garden and arboretum (collection of trees) operated by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The Red Butte Garden contains 18 acres (0.073 km2) of botanical gardens and hiking trails through native vegetation. It is open to the public year-round to offer advice, tips, and classes on gardening and horticulture. It also hosts a series of popular summer music concerts as well as floral, sculpture, and other art exhibits, nature-related classes and events. In the 2008-2009 season, there were 51,992 general visitors, and many more thousandas attended Concerts, Festivals/Exhibits/Events, School Programs, etc. They are currently engaged in eight separate native plant research projects. In the last 5 years the Red Butte Garden has planted a little over 200,000 bulbs. 2010 marked their 25 anniversay and it continues to realize their mission of "Cultivating the human connection with the beauty of living landscapes".
